I learned a number of things from this pilot, and one of the most valuable lessons was in regards to Lym. While the concept of “Yu-Gi-Oh but if the protagonist didn’t care and won anyway” sounds good on paper, in practice it makes that protagonist pretty passive by necessity. They can’t be proactive in their own victory if they have to always win by dumb luck. It is, however, an effective tool for building the world and secondary characters (Gary and Alessa have most of the screen time here). So, in the revised story Lym only has this quirk for the first act, and in a way it becomes a flaw she needs to iron out proceeding into Act 2.
