There was this one summer where Comedy Central kept playing the Beverly Hills Cop movies back to back, and it was always on in the background at my house, so I find that I know them pretty much by heart. I figured it’d be a funny quirk if Chief was really into them, so I began working that into his character here. Chief really only served to announce the premise of each strip in the original (example: “ACTION HAT! MENDOZA HAS A JET PACK!”), so he needed to have a bit more to him, especially since Lynda is gone for the time being. The last panel is kind of an inside joke, I like to goof about Nick Fury showing up at then end of every movie to recruit the protagonist into the Avengers. “I was watching when you stuck that banana in that tail pipe, Axel. We need you if we’re ever going to survive Ultron.”
