This location was originally meant to be a strip mall turned into a shelter, but not to long before I drew this I had the idea to use a hospital instead. It would be bigger and provide more interesting venues, but more importantly would be thematically appropriate.

Odessa is the name of an important character that would have been in the second act of this story. Apparently I hadn’t learn not to do things like that when I wrote this story.

So, another wrinkle to this story is an exploration of feminism born out of fear. It would have been revealed that Connor develops the attitude he does about Zahra’s autonomy because he knew her mother and witnessed her die in child birth, regretting the things she missed out on by living such a restricted life.

You may have noticed that the sky has shifted from day to night to dawn through this opening scene. I wanted the time of day to fit the tone, and thought it was something I could get away with manipulating a little without jeopardizing the storytelling.

I could’ve used an extra panel there, before the very last panel, to show the tiger-bot clambering onto the tree and Zahra repositioning herself, but I didn’t have the space. These pages are actually 3 strips stacked onto one another. That format was fast, but very restricting when it came to composition. I also use
